Start Small

It’s not easy taking on big or multiple problems with immediate reaction to resolve an issue. Usually, big problems require time and effort to fix. For example, basic addition such as (1+1=2) doesn’t take much time to calculate. Finding the answer to one plus one is calculated in less than a second, because it’s an easy problem. However, 3(2+7)-1 requires small steps in order to solve.

(2+7 = 9)

3(9)-1

3x9=27

Answer 27–1=(26)

In order to get this answer, it takes multiple steps through (PEMDAS).

In the same way, to be successful and take on problems in life, we have to build ourselves one step at a time. The first problem of the day is ourselves.

The Self Dynamic

During one of my recent studies in scientology, we learn that there are 8 dynamics inside human survival. The Self Dynamic runs concurrent with the other seven constantly in daily life. The reason I titled this segment Be Your Best Self, is because to succeed in life, we have to think about everything we do as a competition; we want to be our best and be the best in everything we do, even in failure.

Example

When you brush your teeth, you want to brush them to the best of your ability. When you eat, you want to eat as properly as possible with all mannerism. When you make love, you want to make the best love possible. In everything you do, you want to be your best.

Example 2 : You wake up in the morning for a set interview inquiring a sales position. So you make your bed, you shower, brush your teeth, shave, comb your hair, spray a hint of cologne and dress all to the best of your ability. Chances are, the employer who sees you is likely to be confident in you before you even sell your quality talents for the position. Reading or exercising the brain and running or working out also helps with Being Your Best Self. As stated by a navy seal who gave a speech to a graduating class at The University of Texas, “If you can’t get the little things right, you’ll never be able to get the big things right.”

Environmental Adaptation

In another study, I learned about Survival In Dangerous Environments. The environment we live in plays a huge roll in who we are, who we become and how far we can make it in life before hitting a stopping point. Many people adapt to their environment and this can be a bad thing. Why? Because by adapting to your environment, you’re giving away the qualities of yourself that make you an independent character. Your environment should be adapting to you.

Example: You have a Business Degree and you have a job in Business Development, but it happens that you find yourself in jail for getting into an argument with your wife. Now you go from a nice office, a business suit and business associates, to a cell, a striped jumpsuit, and a house full of criminals. You have two options: Adapt, or have them adapt. By adapting, you might come out of jail different from who you were before you went in, possibly carrying new habits, but by having others adapt, a multitude of criminals might come out of jail and become successful businessmen. Regardless of your environment, it is important to maintain composure. I find that it is best to adapt only to what is good in the sight of God and beneficial to the purpose of mankind. This gives the world variety, as we should be a variety of people, promoting a variety of successful living.
